A Rhode Island Limited Liability Company Fictitious Business Name Statement is a document filed with the Rhode Island Secretary of State's office in order to register a business name for a limited liability company (LLC) if it is different from the legal name of the company. It is used to establish a distinct identity for the company and to give customers the ability to identify the company in the marketplace. The statement must include the name of the LLC, the LLC's street address, and the name of any fictitious business name that is being used. There are two types of Rhode Island Limited Liability Company Fictitious Business Name Statement: Initial Statement and Renewal Statement. An Initial Statement is used to register a new fictitious business name that is different from the LLC's legal name. A Renewal Statement is used to renew an existing fictitious business name statement that has not yet expired.
