Pennsylvania Appearance of Counsel is a document used in the state of Pennsylvania to allow an attorney who is not admitted to practice law in the state to appear on behalf of a client in a particular case. This document, which must be signed and notarized by the attorney, is filed with the court and serves as a temporary license for the attorney to practice law in the state for the duration of the case. There are two types of Pennsylvania Appearance of Counsel: Limited Appearance of Counsel and General Appearance of Counsel. A Limited Appearance of Counsel is used when the attorney is only appearing on behalf of the client for a limited purpose, such as a single hearing or motion. A General Appearance of Counsel is used when the attorney is representing the client in the entirety of the case.
