This process is necessary when the decedent owned property in multiple states at the time of death, in order to ensure that the assets are properly distributed. The Checklist includes a list of items to be completed in order to commence the ancillary administration, such as filing an ancillary administration petition, obtaining a surety bond, and notifying creditors. It also includes a list of documents that should be filed with the court, such as a will, an affidavit of domicile, and a death certificate. There are two types of New York Ancillary Administration Proceeding Checklist: one for estates with a value of less than $50,000, and one for estates with a value of $50,000 or more. The Checklist for estates of $50,000 or more includes additional steps, such as a notice of filing for ancillary administration and a notice of hearing.
