New York Blue Back — Order To Show Cause is a form issued by the court which requires the respondent (defendant) to appear in court and explain why a certain action should not be taken against them. It is also called a “show cause hearing”. There are three types of New York Blue Back — Order To Show Cause forms: temporary restraining order (TO), preliminary injunction, and permanent injunction. A TO is an order issued by a court prior to a full hearing, typically to prevent a certain action from taking place. A preliminary injunction is issued after a hearing but is only in effect until a final decision is made. Lastly, a permanent injunction is issued after a final decision and is in effect until it is modified or vacated.
