Description

NJ Motor Vehicle Commission Affidavit for Surviving Spouse

The New Jersey NJ Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) Affidavit for Surviving Spouse is a document that is used by spouses of deceased individuals to transfer the ownership of a vehicle to themselves. The document is used to certify the surviving spouse’s right to obtain title and registration of a motor vehicle that was owned by the deceased person. There are two types of New Jersey NJ Motor Vehicle Commission Affidavit for Surviving Spouse: the first is a Joint Tenancy Affidavit, which is used when a vehicle is jointly owned by a married couple; and the second is the Sole Ownership Affidavit, which is used when the vehicle was solely owned by the deceased person. Both affidavits must be completed and signed by the surviving spouse and notarized. The surviving spouse must also include supporting documents, such as the title or registration for the vehicle, a valid driver’s license or state identification card, and the death certificate of the deceased individual.
