Any party entitled to an appeal under N.C.G.S. § 7B-1001(a) and (a1) may take appeal by filing notice of appeal with the clerk of superior court and serving copies of the notice on all other parties in the time and manner set out in N.C.G.S. § 7B-1001(b) and (c).

An attorney representing a party who will not be filing a document shall enter a separate notice of appearance as counsel of record indicating the name of the party represented. A separate notice of appearance shall also be entered whenever an attorney is substituted as counsel of record in a particular case.

Superior courts hear cases involving felony crimes, civil cases involving $25,000 or more, and appeals from district courts.

The client's replacement counsel who is a member of the same law firm as the attorney of record may file a notice of substitution of counsel. The notice of substitution must include a representation that the client has been informed of and consents to the substitution.

An appeal bond or a monetary deposit of $250.00 is required in civil cases per Rules 6 and 17. The bond should be filed contemporaneously with the record in the Court of Appeals and with the notice of appeal in the Supreme Court.
