Michigan Satisfaction of Financial Obligation is a legal document issued by the Michigan Department of Treasury. It acts as proof that a debt has been paid in full in the State of Michigan. It is often used as a condition of closing a sale or transfer of real estate. There are two types of Michigan Satisfaction of Financial Obligation: a Registered Satisfaction of Financial Obligation (SFO); and an Unregistered Satisfaction of Financial Obligation (USF). The SFO is recorded and indexed in the public records of Michigan. The USF is a private document that is not recorded. Both documents act as evidence of payment of a debt and provide legal protection to the parties involved.
