The Maryland Petition for Peace Order (Bilingual — Spanish Format) is a legal document used to help protect victims of abuse from their abuser. This petition is available in both English and Spanish, allowing victims to request a court order to keep their abuser away from them, their home, and their workplace. The petition can be used to protect victims from physical, sexual, or psychological abuse, as well as threats of harm or harassment. Depending on the type of abuse, the court may be able to grant a peace order that will last up to six months or longer. There are two types of Maryland Petition for Peace Order (Bilingual — Spanish Format): Temporary Peace Order and Final Peace Order. A Temporary Peace Order is issued when someone is in immediate danger. It is usually granted within 24 hours of filing the petition and lasts for up to seven days. A Final Peace Order is issued if the court finds that the abuse is likely to continue. It can last up to six months or longer and the abuser must abide by the terms of the order or face criminal charges.
