A Massachusetts Notice of Change Appearance of Counsel is a document that must be filed whenever there is a change in the counsel of record in a case within the state of Massachusetts. The document is used to inform the court that a different attorney will be representing one of the parties to the case. If the change in counsel is due to a conflict of interest, the document must state the reason for the change. There are two types of Massachusetts Notice of Change Appearance of Counsel: (1) Notice of Change of Appearance of Counsel for the Plaintiff; and (2) Notice of Change of Appearance of Counsel for the Defendant. The Notice must be signed by both the original counsel of record and the new counsel of record, as well as the party they are representing.
