Illinois Warrant for Firearms (IWF) is a court order issued by an Illinois court that authorizes police officers to search for and seize firearms and ammunition. IWF is commonly used in cases involving firearms-related offenses. These warrants are typically issued when the police have probable cause to believe that a firearm is being used in the commission of a crime, when a firearm is used in the commission of a threat, or when a firearm is involved in a domestic violence situation. There are two types of IWF: a search warrant and an arrest warrant. A search warrant allows officers to search a person's home, vehicle, or other property for firearms and ammunition. An arrest warrant enables police officers to arrest and detain a person suspected of possessing a firearm.
