Illinois Rule To Show Cause is a court order issued by a judge to a party or witness in a case to appear in court and explain why a certain action should not take place. This order is issued when someone fails to comply with a court order or otherwise fails to act in a timely manner. The Rule To Show Cause can be used to enforce a court's orders, compel a witness to provide testimony, or compel a party to comply with the terms of a settlement agreement. There are three types of Illinois Rule To Show Cause: Rule to Show Cause for Discovery, Rule to Show Cause for Contempt, and Rule to Show Cause for Payment.
