Iowa Original Notice By Publication is a form of service of process in the state of Iowa in which the defendant is notified of a lawsuit by a publication in a newspaper of general circulation within the county in which the action is being brought. This process is utilized when the whereabouts of the defendant is not known, or they have evaded service of process. There are two types of Iowa Original Notice By Publication. The first type is an Affidavit of Publication, which is a sworn statement from the newspaper that contains the name of the newspaper, the date of publication, and a statement that the notice was published in the newspaper. The second type is a Proof of Publication, which is a copy of the notice as published in the newspaper.
