Hawaii Garnishee Summons is an official court document used by creditors to recover money from a debtor’s bank account. The debtor’s bank or other financial institution will be served with the summons, which requires the bank or institution to freeze the debtor’s assets until the debt is paid off or the case is resolved. The bank or institution is referred to as a “garnishee.” There are two types of Hawaii Garnishee Summons: an Original Summons and a Supplemental Summons. The Original Summons orders the garnishee to provide information on the debtor’s assets and to freeze the assets until the debt is paid. The Supplemental Summons orders the garnishee to pay the creditor from the debtor’s assets.
