The Alaska Notice of Restorative Justice Proceeding is a document used in cases where an offender and victim agree to enter into a restorative justice process. Restorative justice is an alternative to the traditional criminal justice system that focuses on repairing the harm caused by crime and restoring relationships between the offender, victim, and community. The Alaska Notice of Restorative Justice Proceeding details the process, parties, and terms of the restorative justice proceedings. It outlines the facilitator's role, the rights of the offender and the victim, any financial or other obligations that may be imposed on the offender, and any other agreements made by the parties. The Alaska Notice of Restorative Justice Proceeding can be used in two types of proceedings: Victim-Offender Mediation (COM) and Circle Sentencing. In COM, the offender and victim meet with a mediator to discuss the harm caused by the offense, the needs of the victim, and the obligations of the offender. In Circle Sentencing, a circle of community members and the offender come together to provide support and guidance to the offender and determine consequences for the offense.
