Is on campus housing guaranteed for students for all four years? How many years are students required to live on campus? Wake Forest has a six-semester residency requirement and is committed to providing housing for eight semesters for students in good standing.
This roommate pairing process is reflective of the University's commitment to helping incoming students get to know individuals different than themselves. As a continuing student, you will be able to select your community and choose your own roommate(s).
Wake Forest University has a total undergraduate enrollment of 5,471 (fall 2023), with a gender distribution of 44.6% male students and 55.4% female students. At this school, 75% of the students live in college-owned, -operated or -affiliated housing and 25% of students live off campus.
First-year students will be assigned to live in one of seven residences hall on South Campus. We call this South Forest. In general, residence halls are coeducational by floor, suite, and/or wing. All rooms are equipped with beds, closets, desks, cable television connections, Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections.
Many colleges have a matching system to pair you with your future roommate. If they do not, they might do it manually within their housing department. If you are going to an in-state college or going to a college with someone you know, you have the opportunity to choose your future roommate if you so wish.
Questions to Ask When Searching for a Roommate What's your sleeping schedule like? ... Are you messy or clean? How often do you like to clean? How will cleaning be shared? At what temperature do you like to keep the room and/or apartment? Are you okay with sharing/borrowing clothes, food, etc.?
If you are planning on becoming roommates with your best friend in college, this is your time to revisit that decision or be sure you create strong boundaries with your friends to limit any tension or miscommunication. Always remember to think deeply before making any long term decisions like this one.
First-Year Housing These function as different neighborhoods, or clusters of dorms, where you'll live. From there, the Resident Dean of First-Year Students for your assigned yard will carefully read through every roommate application and make pairings based off of student preferences.
Communication, communication, communication Your roommate agreement is a way to discuss what issues might come up throughout the year and talk about how you might handle them. It's also good to know what style of communication works best for you and your roommate.
After letting the college know you want on-campus housing, the school assigns you a room in a dorm or residence hall. Along with your room assignment, the school lets you know the names of your roommate(s) and the official move-in date.
