Here are tips for helping and supporting your colleagues: Communicate often. Communicating with colleagues helps build a relationship and can inspire teamwork. Recognize their challenges. Volunteer your time. Give advice. Build a relationship. Offer praise. Perform an act of kindness. Organize a group lunch.

For example, one type of supporter may be someone to hold you accountable — when some tough talk or clear thinking may be just what you need. Another may offer emotional support — someone who will listen, commiserate, or just give you a break.

Caring for coworkers means recognizing and responding to their needs, both at work and outside of work. It means actively listening to their stories, concerns, and feedback, and taking them seriously. It means acknowledging their strengths and achievements and celebrating them.

How to treat others with respect in the workplace Acknowledge each person's basic dignity. Have empathy for every person's life situation. Listen to and encourage each other's opinions and input. Validate other people's contributions. Avoid gossip, teasing and other unprofessional behavior.

Provide a safe and clean workplace Show your respect for your employees by creating a work environment that is clean, secure and professional. They can be more productive in an organized workplace than one that is distracting and cluttered. This might include: Hiring a cleaning service for the office building.

What does it mean to provide support for employees? Providing support for employees helps them manage internal and external pressures in the workplace and can come in employee assistance programs. These programs usually offer confidential sessions that allow employees to discuss their challenges and develop solutions.

Ask about plans or family events they've talked about or a TV show you both like. Showing you care includes talking about the fun stuff, too. Show appreciation for them and what they do: Be sure to say thank you when they've been responsive or helpful, and share specific appreciative feedback on their work.

Transitioning to a hybrid work model In the workplace of the future, employees will seamlessly integrate into hybrid teams, regardless of their physical location. That starts with building strong communication and planning strategies, breaking down silos and building a connected workplace.
