FAQ

In Alabama, there are no state laws regulating the number of hours employees can work per day or week. However, full-time employees generally work 30 to 40 hours per week. Contractual employees adhere to the conditions defined in their contracts regarding their work hours.

Overtime hours — which the Department of Labor considers any hours worked outside a full-time, 40-hour week — aren't taxed more. When running hourly payroll, you'll withhold the same taxes from an employee's overtime wages that you would from their regular wages.

In summary, the key provisions of the Act on minimum rest and maximum working time are as follows: maximum average net weekly working time of 48 hours. a daily rest break of 11 consecutive hours. rest breaks while at work. a weekly rest break of 24 consecutive hours. maximum average night working of 8 hours.

Is it illegal to work 8 hours without a break in Alabama? No. Regarding meal and rest breaks, the state of Alabama follows federal law. Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), employers are not required to provide employees with breaks during work hours.

In general, an employer doesn't violate overtime laws by requiring employees to work overtime, (ie “mandatory overtime”), as long as they are properly compensated at the premium rate required by law. However, Maryland state law does prohibit mandatory overtime for nurses under certain circumstances.

Overtime in general Overtime is payment to an employee of one and one- half (1.5) times the regular hourly wage for work performed in excess of 40 hours in a 7-day week.

There is no limit to the number of hours an adult employee can work under Maryland or federal law. As long as there is no employment contract or company policy in place that states otherwise, an employer can set an employee's minimum and maximum hours and change them at any time at her or his sole discretion.

Employers in Montgomery County are obligated to comply with the State or County's minimum wage, whichever is higher. Therefore, large employers in the County are still required to continue paying their employees a minimum wage of $17.15 per hour.

Basic Minimum Rate (per hour): $7.25 The Texas State minimum wage law does not contain current dollar minimums. Instead the State adopts the federal minimum wage rate by reference.
