Fairfax County Workforce Dwelling Unit (WDU) affordable housing program is for low-income individuals and families, allowing below-market rents for those who qualify. The program is not a subsidized housing program, as each resident is responsible for their monthly rent amount.

WORKFORCE DWELLING UNIT (WDU): For-sale or rental units that serve households with income up to 100 percent (for-sale units) and 80 percent (rental units) of the AMI for the Washington Metropolitan Statistical Area, as determined annually by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The WDU Rental Program is designed to help working households afford to live in Fairfax County, near employment centers and transportations options – and avoid those long, expensive commutes from further away. In short, the WDU Rental Program can help you live near where you work – and spend less time on the road.

While anyone can apply to a WDU apartment, applicants who live and work in Fairfax County and disabled persons will be given priority. Applicants must make at least 2.5x the base rent as well as not exceed the maximum income level. The maximum income level is based off of the total number of occupants in the apartment.
