Note: Applications will be processed in the order they are received. We strive to process exemptions as quickly as possible, but at times processing could take up to 90 days to process, per Texas Property Tax Code Section 11.45.

The chief appraiser is responsible for granting/denying exemption applications. A property owner or the owner's authorized agent must file the necessary application before May 1 of the tax year. To apply for an exemption, call the Bexar Appraisal District at 210-224-2432.

Persons with a residence homestead are entitled to a 20% exemption of the market valuation of their home.

Deed/Lien Information To record it in person, bring the original Release to the Bexar County Clerk's Recordings Department at the Paul Elizondo Tower. To record it through the mail, send the original document to the Bexar County Clerk's Office in the Courthouse.
