Each of these courts have a presiding judge who is elected by partisan election to a four-year term. The 67 Harris County District Courts include 24 Civil District Courts, 29 Criminal District Courts, 11 Family District Courts, and 3 Juvenile District Courts. There are also an additional 20 Associate Judges.

In Harris County, you can file your pro se petition and waiver in-person at the Harris County Civil Intake Office located on the first floor of the Civil Courthouse located at 201 Caroline Street. Civil intake office hours are 8 AM - PM Monday to Friday.

To file online, go to E-File Texas ( ) 11 and follow the instructions. To file in person, take your answer (and copies) to the district clerk's office in the county where the plaintiff filed the case. At the clerk's office: Turn in your answer form (and copies).

The written response must be made within 20 days of personal service, or within 30 days of the time when service by any other means is complete.
