Bank Robbery 18 U.S.C. Sec. 2113(a) And (d) (Subsections (a) and (d) Alleged in the Same Count) is a U.S. federal law that makes it a crime to take or attempt to take money or other property from a federally insured financial institution by force or intimidation. It is codified in the U.S. Code at Title 18, Part 1, Chapter 103, Section 2113. The two subsections describe the two types of bank robbery, namely, (a) robbery and (d) attempted robbery. Section (a) defines robbery, which is the actual taking of money or property from a bank by force or intimidation. Section (d) describes attempted robbery, which is when someone attempts to take money or property from a bank by force or intimidation, but fails in the attempt. In both cases, the perpetrator faces severe penalties and may also be liable for civil damages, restitution, and other costs.
