The West Virginia Statement of Visiting Attorney and Designation of Local Counsel (L R CIV P 83.6 or L R Cr P 44.6) is a document that must be filed with the court in order for out-of-state attorneys to practice in West Virginia. This document must be signed by both the visiting attorney and a local counsel who is admitted to practice law in West Virginia. The visiting attorney must list the cases or matters in which they are involved and the local counsel must state that they accept the responsibility of representing the visiting attorney in the jurisdiction of West Virginia. There are two types of West Virginia Statement of Visiting Attorney and Designation of Local Counsel (L R CIV P 83.6 or L R Cr P 44.6): Civil LR CIV P 83.6 and Criminal LR Cr P 44.6.
