A Wisconsin Statement of Emergency Detention by DA or Corp Counsel is a document filed with the court, signed by the District Attorney or Corporation Counsel, that authorizes the detention of an individual who is believed to be dangerous or who is in need of immediate treatment for a mental illness. This document is used to request an emergency detention hearing in order to determine whether an individual should be hospitalized and/or treated for their mental condition. There are two types of Wisconsin Statements of Emergency Detention by DA or Corp Counsel: an ED-1 and an ED-2. The ED-1 is used when the District Attorney or Corporation Counsel believes the individual is dangerous to themselves or others, while an ED-2 is used when the individual is believed to be in need of immediate treatment for a mental illness.
