Wisconsin Order of Commitment for Treatment (Incompetency) is a legal document issued by a circuit court to involuntarily commit a person found to be mentally incompetent due to a mental illness or developmental disability for treatment in an appropriate facility. This document is intended to protect the individual’s health and safety by providing necessary care and treatment. There are three types of Wisconsin Order of Commitment for Treatment (Incompetency): Temporary Commitment, Extended Commitment, and Lifetime Commitment. Temporary Commitment is for a period of up to 90 days. Extended Commitment is for an indefinite period of time but no longer than one year. Lifetime Commitment is for an indefinite period of time and may continue until the person is deemed competent or dies.
