There are two main types of Washington Motion for Order Waiving or Reducing Interest on Legal financial Obligations (MTA): Motion for Waiver of Interest and Motion for Reduction of Interest. The Motion for Waiver of Interest is used to reduce or eliminate interest that has accrued on an LFO owed to the state or a private creditor. The Motion for Reduction of Interest is used to reduce the interest rate on an LFO owed to the state or a private creditor. Both motions must be filed with the court and include relevant documents such as the debtor’s financial statement, proof of hardship, and other supporting documents. The motion must also include a proposed order signed by the debtor and the creditor. The court will then review the motion and decide whether to grant the request.
