A Washington Order to Surrender Weapons Issued Without Notice is a court order that requires individuals to give up their firearms without prior notice. This type of order is issued when it is believed that an individual presents an imminent risk to public safety. The order is issued by a judge and must be served by law enforcement. There are two different types of Washington Order to Surrender Weapons Issued Without Notice: Extreme Risk Protection Orders (Eros) and Domestic Violence Protection Orders (DVP Os). An RPO is issued to individuals who are believed to be a risk to themselves or others, while a DVP is issued to individuals who have been accused of domestic violence. Both orders require the individual to surrender any firearms they possess within 24 hours and are valid for one year.
