Foreign (non Washington) Name Registration is the process of registering a business name that is used outside the state of Washington. This type of registration is only applicable to businesses that are incorporated in Washington, but do business outside the state. Foreign Name Registrations are typically required when a business is looking to expand into new markets or to establish a legal presence in another state, country, or region. There are two types of Foreign Name Registrations: Qualification and Registration. Qualification is the process of filing documents with the Secretary of State of the state in which the business plans to do business, while Registration is the process of registering the business name with the state in which it is incorporated.
