8.9 Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury (18 U.S.C. Sec. 113(a)(6)) is a federal offense that occurs when a person inflicts serious bodily injury upon another person through the use of force. This offense carries a sentence of up to 10 years imprisonment and/or fines of up to $250,000. It can also result in a felony conviction. Aggravated assault is defined as intentionally causing serious bodily injury to another person with a deadly weapon.
