18 U.S.C. Sec. 1028(A)(8) — Trafficking in False or Actual Authentication Features states that it is a federal offense to knowingly produce, transfer, possess, or use any false authentication feature or possess any document-making implement used to create such a feature. This includes offering, producing, trafficking, or possessing items with false authentication features, with the intent of using them to defraud the United States government. The types of false authentication features covered under this section include false driver’s licenses, false birth certificates, false social security cards, false passports, false immigration documents, false voter registration cards, and false government identification cards.
