18 U.S.C. Sec. 1028(A)(6) POSSESSION OF A STOLEN IDENTIFICATION DOCUMENT OR AUTHENTICATION FEATURE is a federal law that prohibits individuals from possessing a stolen identification document or authentication feature. This offense is punishable by a fine, imprisonment, or both. Types of stolen identification documents or authentication features covered under this law include driver's licenses, Social Security cards, passports, birth certificates, credit cards, and military identification cards. Additionally, the law covers any electronic, digital, or other form of authentication feature that can be used to gain access to a financial account or other account or service. All individuals who are found guilty of possessing a stolen identification document or authentication feature, regardless of their intent, are subject to the penalties stipulated in the law.
