Sponsor's Motion and Oath of Admission Instructions is a process by which a legally responsible adult, referred to as a sponsor, can bring a minor child or adult into the United States as a legal immigrant. This process is also known as a family-based immigration petition. The sponsor must fill out a Petition for Alien Relative form (Form I-130) and submit the required documents to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in order to prove their relationship to the immigrant. The sponsor must also submit a Petition for Alien Fiancé (Form I-129F) if they are sponsoring a fiancé or fiancée. The sponsor must also make a financial commitment to the immigrant by filing an Affidavit of Support (Form I-864). This document is a legally binding agreement between the sponsor and the U.S. government that states that the sponsor will provide financial support for the immigrant should they become a lawful permanent resident. The sponsor must also attend a Sponsor's Motion and Oath of Admission (Form I-824) hearing. During this hearing, the sponsor will swear under oath that they will fulfill their financial responsibility as the sponsor and that they will provide a suitable living arrangement for the immigrant. Lastly, the sponsor must attend an interview with an immigration officer. During this interview, the sponsor and the immigrant must answer questions about the sponsor's financial ability to support the immigrant and other details related to the immigration petition.
