14.22 DEFINITION: "SERIOUS HEALTH CONDITION" (alternate) is a medical condition that is severe and that may require extensive medical treatment or interventions. This includes conditions such as cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, mental health conditions, and HIV/AIDS. These conditions can be acute or chronic and often require regular monitoring and treatments. Different types of serious health conditions include chronic illnesses, which are long-term illnesses that may require ongoing management and treatment; acute illnesses, which are short-term illnesses that require urgent medical attention; and terminal illnesses, which are illnesses that cannot be cured.
