10.6 Definition of "Serious Health Condition" is a term used to describe an illness or injury that requires significant medical attention. It includes, but is not limited to, conditions such as cancer, stroke, heart attack, chronic illnesses, pregnancy, mental health conditions, substance abuse, and any condition that requires inpatient care or continuing medical treatment or supervision. There are three types of serious health conditions: (1) those that involve an overnight stay in a hospital, hospice, or residential medical care facility; (2) those that require absences from work, school, or other regular activities for more than three consecutive calendar days and continuing treatment or supervision by a health care provider; and (3) those that require ongoing treatment or supervision, such as physical therapy or counseling.
