Impeachment of Witness — Prior Inconsistent Statement for Credibility Only is a legal process in which a witness's testimony is challenged by the introduction of evidence that the witness has previously made statements that are inconsistent with their current testimony. This type of impeachment is limited to attacking the credibility of the witness and is not used to establish the truth of the prior statement. There are two types of Impeachment of Witness — Prior Inconsistent Statement for Credibility Only: direct impeachment and indirect impeachment. Direct impeachment involves introducing evidence of the prior inconsistent statement directly to the witness. Indirect impeachment involves introducing evidence of the prior inconsistent statement to the court, without having the witness testify.
