FAQ

Pick Up Your RefundIf your money order was stolen or lost, and not yet cashed when the issuer concludes the investigation process, a refund is issued. The USPS allows for picking up a refund, in the form of a postal money order you can address to yourself and cash immediately, at any post office.

When you submit your cancellation form, you can either request a replacement money order or a refund of the purchase price. The replacement process can take up to 60 days, so if you're using the money order to make an urgent payment, you should probably consider sending another.

Complete the money order tracing/refund request form on the back of the money order receipt and return it, along with a $15 non-refundable processing fee, to the address listed there.

If your money order is eligible on the status form, our online form will make it easy to request a replacement. We will process your request within 7-10 business days. If you've already submitted a replacement request, you can check your replacement status.

If the Money Order Has Been Cashed (In most cases, you can also check yourself, by calling the customer service number on your receipt or entering the money order serial number at the issuer's website.) If the money order has been cashed, the issuer will not replace it or refund the purchase amount.

Money orders can be replaced if they are damaged, lost or stolen, but the process isn't always easy, nor is it free. You'll have to return to the place where you purchased the original money order and provide information proving you purchased it.

Print and complete the money order customer request form. Return with the receipt and a $15 processing fee to the listed address. If they don't have their receipt, fill out and send the same form with a $30 fee.

Take it to the Bank If the money order is blank, put your name in the recipient's area and endorse the back of the money order. Then you can either present it to a teller. If you don't have a bank account, many banks such as Chase, Wells Fargo and Bank of America will cash a money order for a fee.

Making a Mistake on Money Order Many money order providers and cashiers won't let you correct the mistake yourself. Changing information on the completed money order will make the order ineligible for cashing; the official policy is that money orders must be canceled and/or refunded if there is a mistake.
