Auto loans don't disappear when the car owner passes away. Any debts the person owed in life will still need to be paid. When applying for the new Texas license the individual must surrender any unexpired driver license in their possession from another U.S. state, U.S. territory or a Canadian province. For more information on general reciprocal driving provisions, please review the Driving Privilege Reciprocity page.
The easiest way to transfer your driver's license when moving to Texas is to surrender a valid out-of-state driver's license. This means you will turn your out-of-state driver's license into the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) in exchange for a new Texas driver's license.
There is no fee to close a license.
