What Is a Request for Production of Documents? A request for production is a discovery device used to gain access to documents, electronic data, and physical items held by an opposing party in a legal matter. The aim is to gain insight into any relevant evidence that the opposing party holds.

Rule 190.4. Discovery Control Plan - By Order (Level 3) (1999) (a) Application. The court must, on a party's motion, and may, on its own initiative, order that discovery be conducted in ance with a discovery control plan tailored to the circumstances of the specific suit.

196.1 Request for Production and Inspection to Parties. (a) Request. A party may serve on another party - no later than 30 days before the end of the discovery period - a request for production or for inspection, to inspect, sample, test, photograph and copy documents or tangible things within the scope of discovery.

Requests for inspection or entry let you examine physical evidence like documents, emails, and property from the other side. These requests must be specific and relevant to your case (Rule 196.1(b)).
