The Tennessee Certificate of Non-Representation (CNR) is a form used in the state of Tennessee to certify that a person is not represented by an attorney in a legal matter. It is also known as a “Non-Attorney Certification”. This certificate is required if an individual wishes to represent themselves in a legal matter. It is usually signed by the person in question in the presence of a notary public. There are two types of Tennessee Certificate of Non-Representation (CNR): the Standard CNR and the Special CNR. The Standard CNR is used when a person wishes to represent themselves in a legal matter. The Special CNR is used when a person wishes to represent themselves in a pro SE capacity, meaning they are acting as both their own lawyer and client. The Tennessee Certificate of Non-Representation (CNR) must be filed with the appropriate court and must be signed in the presence of a notary public.
