A Tennessee Restraining Order is a court order issued in the state of Tennessee that prohibits a person from contacting or harassing another person. There are two types of Tennessee Restraining Order: a Domestic Violence Order of Protection (DROP) and an Ex Parte Order of Protection (POP). A DROP is issued when a person is in an intimate relationship with the alleged abuser, such as a spouse, former spouse, parent of a child, or someone who lives in the same household. An POP is issued when the alleged abuser has no prior relationship with the alleged victim. Both orders prohibit contact with the alleged victim, and can include provisions for child custody, visitation, and support. Tennessee Restraining Orders are enforceable by law and can be enforced by local law enforcement.
