A Tennessee Wage Assignment Order for Child Support is a court order that requires an employer to deduct money from the wages of an employee for the purpose of paying child support. This type of wage assignment is typically issued by the Tennessee Department of Human Services when a parent fails to make their child support payments. There are two types of Tennessee Wage Assignment Orders for Child Support: the Immediate Wage Assignment and the Delayed Wage Assignment. The Immediate Wage Assignment requires the employer to begin making deductions from the employee's wages for child support immediately upon receipt of the order. The Delayed Wage Assignment requires that the deductions begin a predetermined number of pay periods after receipt of the order. In both cases, the employer must send the deductions to the Tennessee Child Support Services Office. The employer must also provide the employee with an earnings statement showing the amount of money deducted for child support.
