Hearing Officers are appointed by the court to conduct hearings and make recommendations in divorce cases where the parties have been unable to resolve issues involving fault divorce, irretrievable breakdown of the marriage, distribution of property, alimony, or related economic claims.

A hearing officer acts much like a judge, but only deals with cases involving administrative agencies. The officer's hearings are also much less formal than a traditional court case with a presiding judge. These hearings mostly take place in person, but can also be conducted through mailed testimony as well.

Hearing officer means an administrative law judge or any other person duly authorized to preside at a hearing.

(a) No record shall be made of the hearing in proceedings held pursuant to this rule. (2) immediately serve upon counsel for each party, or, if unrepresented, upon the party, a copy of the report and recommendation, and written notice of the right to demand a hearing de novo.

The Hearing Officers are attorneys appointed by the Court of Common Pleas of Chester County, to act as fact finders in support and other family law cases. The Hearing officers, hear 20 cases per day, 3 days per week. All cases are listed at 9 a.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: Attorney hearing officers must maintain current licensure with the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. All hearing officers must have a degree from an accredited college or university; advanced degrees preferred; and a minimum of 5-7 years special education due process experience.
