Designation as a New York State Covered Farm Vehicle is a special designation for farm vehicles in the state of New York. This designation provides operators of farm vehicles certain rights and privileges while operating on roadways. The designation is divided into two categories: Covered Farm Vehicles and Farm Vehicles. Covered Farm Vehicles include motor vehicles, trailers, and semitrailers used exclusively in farming and registered as a Covered Farm Vehicle. Farm Vehicles include vehicles used exclusively in farming that meet certain size and speed criteria. Both Covered Farm Vehicles and Farm Vehicles can be driven with a state-issued Farm Vehicle Permit. Covered Farm Vehicles are exempt from certain registration and insurance requirements, as well as weight and speed restrictions. Farm Vehicles must be operated with caution, and must be operated in accordance with all applicable traffic laws and regulations.
