The New York Re-designation Application is a document used by employers in the state of New York to certify that an individual is a non-citizen and legally authorized to work in the United States. The application is used to obtain a valid Employment Authorization Card, otherwise known as a work permit. There are three types of New York Re-designation Applications: Form I-765 for work authorization; Form I-131 for travel authorization; and Form I-821 for deferred action. Each application requires the submission of documentation and other information, such as a valid passport, proof of identity, and proof of employment eligibility.
