The New Jersey Joint Proposed Discovery Plan (NJ PDP) is a set of procedures designed to provide a framework for the discovery process in civil cases in the New Jersey Courts. It is an attempt to provide a uniform set of rules for parties to adhere to in the discovery process. It is intended to reduce the amount of time and money spent on discovery disputes by requiring parties to identify and respond to discovery requests in a timely manner. The NJ PDP provides for the exchange of certain information, including interrogatories, requests for production of documents, requests for admissions, and depositions. It also sets out rules for the scope of discovery and the timing and manner of responding to discovery requests. The NJ PDP is applicable to all civil cases in the New Jersey Superior Court and the New Jersey Tax Court. There are two types of the NJ PDP: the Joint Proposed Plan (JPP), which is applicable to all civil cases in the New Jersey Superior Court and the Tax Court; and the Special Proposed Plan (SPP), which is applicable to certain types of cases, such as medical malpractice, commercial litigation, and product liability.
