The Maryland Certificate of Completion- Guardian Orientation and Training is a document issued to individuals who have completed an approved training course in the state of Maryland. This training is intended to provide the recipient with the skills and knowledge necessary to carry out the duties and responsibilities of a guardian, such as making decisions about the health care, education, and daily living of an incapacitated adult. The certificate is issued by the Maryland Department of Human Services and is valid for three years. There are two types of Maryland Certificate of Completion- Guardian Orientation and Training: the adult guardianship orientation and the minor guardianship orientation. The adult guardianship orientation is for those who have been appointed to serve as a guardian for an adult with disabilities; while the minor guardianship orientation is for those appointed to serve as a guardian for a minor.
