The Moors were Muslims living in medieval Spain, thousands of years after Moses' death. The story of Moses fighting the Moors was invented in the Middle Ages, no doubt a revision of Biblical history intended to provide a sacred precedent for the attempts of medieval Christians to expel the Moors from Spain.

One primary tenet of the Moorish Science Temple is the belief that African Americans are of "Moorish" descent, specifically from the "Moroccan Empire". ing to Ali, this area included other countries that today surround Morocco. To join the movement, individuals had to proclaim their "Moorish nationality".

That was when a group calling itself Moorish Americans ? an offshoot of the extremist ?sovereign citizen? movement whose members believe they are immune from dealings with U.S. legal and financial systems ? essentially took over the range, declaring it ?protected under the consular jurisdiction of Morocco.?

Moorish-Americans believe in reincarnation, and thus honor Prophet Noble Drew Ali, Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha, Confucius, Noah and many Prophets of Allah as being the same person reincarnated.

Many historians claim that the earliest Muslims came from the Senegambian region of Africa in the early 14th century. It is believed they were Moors, expelled from Spain, who made their way to the Caribbean and possibly to the Gulf of Mexico.
