A Kentucky Petition for Recognition of Foreign Proceeding is a legal document filed with the Kentucky court system in order to recognize a foreign proceeding in another jurisdiction. It is generally used when a Kentucky resident or business is a party in a foreign court action, such as a bankruptcy, and wishes to have the foreign proceeding recognized in Kentucky. The petition must include information about the foreign proceeding, including the name of the court, the title of the case, and a copy of the foreign judgment or order. There are two types of Kentucky Petition for Recognition of Foreign Proceeding: 1) a petition to recognize a foreign judgment in Kentucky, and 2) a petition to recognize a foreign bankruptcy proceeding in Kentucky. The Kentucky Supreme Court has the authority to grant recognition of a foreign judgment or bankruptcy proceeding in Kentucky, provided that all requirements are met.
