Illinois Verification is a process used by employers to verify the identity and work authorization of new employees in the state of Illinois. It is a requirement of the Illinois Department of Human Rights that employers use the Illinois Work Authorization Verification System (WAS). The process requires employers to register with the Department of Human Rights and submit new hire paperwork, including a completed WAS questionnaire and a copy of the employee's identification document. There are two types of Illinois Verification: Online Verification and Documentary Verification. Online Verification requires employers to submit the employee's information to the Department of Human Rights via the WAS system. Documentary Verification requires employers to submit a copy of the employee's identification document along with the WAS questionnaire.
