An Iowa Off Premise Liquor License is a document that grants an individual or business the right to sell alcoholic beverages from a retail store, such as a liquor store, in the state of Iowa. It is necessary for individuals and businesses to obtain such a license in order to engage in the sale of alcoholic beverages. There are two types of Iowa Off Premise Liquor Licenses: a Class “A” License and a Class “B” License. A Class “A” license is a general license that allows for the sale of beer, wine, and spirits from a retail store. This type of license is best suited for business owners who intend to stock and sell a variety of alcoholic beverages. A Class “B” license is a more limited license that permits the sale of beer only, and is best suited for a business that intends to stock and sell a limited selection of alcoholic beverages. In order to obtain either type of license, an individual or business must first file an application with the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division, and then meet the requirements of the Iowa Code. Requirements include, but are not limited to, submitting proof of age, providing proof of ownership of the business, and proving financial responsibility.
