The Florida Certification of Emergency (also referred to as the Emergency Management Basic Academy) is a program offered by the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FEM). The program provides comprehensive training for emergency management professionals, including fire and rescue personnel, law enforcement officers, public health professionals, and emergency medical personnel. The program is designed to give participants the skills and knowledge needed to respond to disasters and emergencies in Florida. The Florida Certification of Emergency consists of three levels, each with its own course requirements and certification. The levels are Basic Academy, Advanced Academy, and the Professional Development Series. The Basic Academy is the entry-level program for emergency management professionals. The Advanced Academy is designed for experienced emergency management personnel and includes topics such as hazardous materials, disaster recovery, and crisis management. The Professional Development Series is designed for those who have completed the Advanced Academy and covers topics such as emergency management planning, leadership, and public relations. Upon successful completion of the program, participants can receive a Florida Certification of Emergency. This certification is recognized by state and local agencies, as well as private organizations, as proof of emergency management competency.
